Högerassymetrisk Volvo lyktinsats
("right" asymmetrical head light)
Resting on all natural and genuine Swedish Nagahyde
Here is an interesting piece of nostalgia from Sweden's move to right hand
driving in 1967. Sweden moved to driving on the right hand side on the 3rd of
September, 1967. In Sweden drivers have (and still do) high expectations from
their light output. They have long, dark and wet winter to deal with. Lets just
say that a 35 watt incandescent sealed beam wouldn't fly over there. Brightness
is obviously important, but proper light patterns is almost more important. What
these "right" asymmetrical fluted lenses offered was an asymmetrical low beam that allows light to go
out and up on the right side. This help spot the moose in the forest that is about the
cross the road. As the Swedes were getting ready to start driving on the other side, the head
light manufactures had a field day marketing "right asymmetrical lights
head lights" to
Swedish consumers. They were sold with a sticker over the asymmetrical side as
per picture above. The day after the move everybody peeled off the silver
sticker and lived happily ever after.
This head light was found in a box of parts that came with the green 122 Wagon
in these pages. The car was sold in the spring of 1967 so it came equipped with
these lights and was probable removed and replaced with the US legal sealed beams once
it arrived in the states. I am greatful that the owner kept this light. This would explain why the sticker is still in place.
NO, I am not going to remove the sticker.

Sweden, 4th of September 1967, the day after switching to right hand driving . Looks like
they are doing well.

A fellow came over to pick up some 122 fenders I had for
sale. He showed up in this rust free Arizona origin 1966

Cool !
Nice to see folks using them the way they should: Daily.

Another daily driver.
This was sitting outside someone's home getting ready for the next day.

We dig it.

Gil Stuart, a very active racer from Canada sent us this picture from an ice
racing event where he broke thru the ice and messed up the front end.
Good thing it did not sink thru !!

Full throttle on the B-18 motivator...
From a 1964 sales brochure...Wouldn't you want to order one?

Some wild Volvo customs seen at a Volvo show in Stockholm sometime in the early
eighties.

Lets just say that I am glad the eighties are over...

Solid 122S wagon/estate/Combi for sale at a swap meet.

Found this super cool Volvo Duett/PV steering wheel on Craigslist for 30 clams.
It may go in my '32 Ford. I would have to change the horn button of course.
More fun stuff to come here...
